Abstract: In view of the problems in current patterns of networked manufacturing, a model of network manufacturing based on semantic web, by integrating semantic web and network manufacturing was proposed. This model endowed the information in the field of networked manufacturing a well-defined semantics so as to make people and machine come to a common understanding. The connotation and features of the model were discussed in detail from aspects as architecture, semantic metadata, networked manufacturing ontology and enterprise application integration based on semantic web services. A web-based collaborative design prototype platform based on semantic web was developed by borrowing ideas from this model.
