Abstract: Almost all modules of PDM system have direct relationship with the document management, so the document management is an elementary module of PDM system. Adopting J2EE platform technology, three-tiered architecture for PDM system is developed. At first the relationship of data vault and document management system is discussed. Documents evolvement from generating to archiving with workflow is introduced. The status chart of document management and the functional model of document operation are constructed. All of these explain how the document management describes the process of production design dynamically. Then the realization of document version management is discussed, and the flow chart of version management is illustrated. Finally an application of PDM systems document management system in Harbin Electric Machinery Ltd. is presented as a case.
