Abstract: To determine the optimal manufacturing and remanufacturing policy, a hybrid system is investigated. In this system, due to the limitation of remanufacturing capacity, the used products are returned from customers but only partially remanufactured while the rest are disposed off. Those return products remanufactured constitute the recoverable inventory. Constant demand of Customers is fulfilled by the serviceable inventory which consists of manufactured products and remanufactured products. Backorder is permitted by customers，but the maximum shortage is limited by the service level of the enterprise. The inventory decision-making models are formulated under two policies：（1）one manufacturing setup and at least one remanufacturing setup policy, and （2）at least one manufacturing setup and one remanufacturing setup policy respectively, the corresponding solution procedures are given by the elimination theory and the difference function, and the formulae on the optimal manufacturing and remanufacturing lot-sizes and so on are derived. The results indicate that the optimal manufacturing and remanufacturing policy can be obtained and there exists an optimal control point for the service level.
